Spills and stains are something everyone hates and are potentially dangerous for those who don’t know they are there. Liquids on any smooth or shiny surface can quickly create a hazard and can lead to serious slip and fall injuries. Hot liquids are also a concern, as spilling them on yourself or another person can cause burns.

Unfortunately for those who suffer from Arthritis, Parkinson’s, and other impairments and diseases similar, spills can often happen and can be very tiring to clean up. Tenura cup caps can help to prevent such spills and stains thanks to the complete seal over the top of cups, mugs and cans they offer.

Tenura cup caps come in a pack of two, one measuring 80mm in diameter and the other 60mm. Allowing you to create a seal over almost any container you may be drinking from.

Cups and Mugs (80mm)

Cup caps can be placed over most cups and mugs to create a complete seal over the top preventing liquid from spilling out of the container. This will stop spills and stains dead in their tracks and allow you to drink from a container without the aforementioned spills. The 80mm cup cap can be stretched and moulded over almost any cup for cold or hot drinks, allowing you to use this item in the house or on the go. A small valve in the middle of the material will allow a straw to be placed through. This will let you drink from the container without the chance of a spill. Cup caps can also be used to keep drinks fresher for longer. Cup caps are anti-microbial, meaning no bacteria or fungi can grow or live on the material. A simple application of soap and water is enough to keep Tenura cup caps clean and hygienic. Tenura CupCaps can be especially useful for using with small children, as cups and mugs can be dropped or knocked over easily,

Cans (60mm)

Cans are a great way to get a drink on the go, perfect for a quick lunchtime in work. However, a spill with most fizzy drinks can cause untold damage to a work environment, creating a sticky mess on your desk, or all over your equipment. This can happen a lot for those who suffer from diseases like Parkinsons or those who suffer from hand and arm impairments, and will be irritating to clean up. Luckily, Tenura cup caps can offer a solution! The 60mm cup caps will fit over almost all cans and will provide a strong seal, helping to prevent nasty spills and stains and keep your drink fresher for longer. The seal in the middle of the material allows a straw to be neatly threaded through, allowing you to drink from the can, without the possibility of a nasty spill. Cup caps can be applied around cans easily, and will stretch to conform around the cans shape. Simply stretch the cup cap around the can making sure the material is tightly positioned around the cans top, then smooth down the edges of the cup cap to the sides of the can. Tenura cup caps can be removed just as easily before throwing away an empty can.

Depression and Joint disease – How do the Two Interact?

recent survey by the University of Basel and the Ruhr-university Bochum have found a direct correlation between the amount of depression cases around the globe, and the amount of people with depression who have a degenerative joint disease such as arthritis, and more. The study was performed on 14,348 subjects aged fifteen years and older, so a broad and concise spectrum of results could be obtained.

Roughly one third of all participants of this study who suffered from depression, also suffered from a joint disease. This is an alarming number and shows how such illnesses, diseases, and ailments can affect day to day life for those who suffer with them. This also shows how depression could have a link to developing some joint diseases like arthritis. The study suggests that depressive symptoms give people a general lack of interest in undertaking physical tasks, hobbies, or any other physical activity which may help to prevent this disease. These could range from running, playing tennis or any other physical activity that depressive symptoms can make seem pointless and give you a general lack of interest. This could lead, if the study goes into more depth at some stage, to some interesting results in how depression could be causing arthritis in some people, and it will also give insight into how miserable this disease can make you feel.

Dealing with Phthalates and Spillages All At Once!

We know that phthalates found in PVC are known to have an effect on the body, developing children in particular. One of the main causes of contamination with phthalates is when food or liquid is placed into a plastic container. The phthalates present in these can then leech into food and beverages, which can then transfer to your body. This can cause many problems ranging from cancer to defects in childbirth, or making conception less likely or not at all.

Some of the most dangerous chemicals known to leak out of phthalates is BPA, or bisphenol A. This chemical has little to no effect in small doses, but when ingesting or coming into contact with larger doses of BPA it can have serious effects. These effects had previously been tested on Mice, which resulted in mutations to their reproductive systems. Exposure to BPA can potentially lead to an array of problems in later life.

Hot beverages are the norm in this country, and who doesn’t like a hot chocolate, tea or coffee every now and then? This can be a real worry, as the container you make the hot beverage in can possibly be exposing the user to health risks. However, the main immediate worry with Adults who have impairments to strength of grip, or basic motor skills and children is the risk of spills, potentially resulting in burns, unless covers are used for cups and beakers.

Tenura have produced silicone Cup caps for this very reason!

Cup Caps are designed to create a seal that virtually prevents spills, and is operated by inserting a straw through the centre eyelet. We use silicone instead of PVC; this ensures the product is chemically inert and non toxic. The only additive is an anti-microbial compound, which prevents mould and protects against a range of bacteria, including E-coli, klebsiella and MRSA. This provides a good protection against hot and cold liquids potentially spilling out. The additional benefit of using silicone is that it can withstand temperatures up to 250°C, though we recommend you allow your hot beverages to be cooled slightly before placing a Tenura Cup cap on top.
