Videos are a great way to showcase products, which is why we have teamed up once again with MegMazeMedia to produce our latest installment, the Jar and Bottle Opener video. In this video, we explore uses for Tenura jar and bottle openers, you know, besides opening containers.
Sit, back, relax, and enjoy the show.
As you can see at the start of this video, Tenura jar and bottle openers are in our eco-friendly packaging, an initiative we are pushing across the whole Tenura daily living aid range.
We manufacture Tenura jar, and bottle openers from 100% antimicrobial silicone, which gives Tenura silicone many advantageous properties. Their primary use is likely within a kitchen, to open tricky jars and containers, which is why they are antimicrobial, meaning bacteria and germs can’t harbour on the surface, which is fundamental in areas that require a high level of hygiene. Another terrific benefit that follows on from them being antimicrobial is that no cost-saving additives such as phthalate plasticisers are in their construction, meaning they are also non-toxic.
For people living with conditions such as arthritis that can result in weakened hand strength, Tenura jar and bottle openers can be a simple yet effective daily tool. Their compact size means you can take them to your workplace or a restaurant, wherever you may need this helpful gadget.
Tenura Jar Openers
Jar Openers have many great uses. From the video, you can see they work well when turning doorknobs or other large containers that can be slippery or tough to open. Tenura silicone jar openers allow you to gain purchase on smooth surfaces. The following were excellent examples in the video:
- Twisting Doorknobs
- Opening Jars
- Opening large containers with twist-off caps
Tenura Bottle Openers
For smaller containers/objects, Tenura offers the silicone bottle opener. Having a smaller version of the jar opener can help you gain purchase on items like bottle tops. In the video, we explore some great uses for this Tenura product:
- Opening milk bottles
- Turning taps
- Opening pill bottles
- Opening small containers with twist-off caps
We hope you enjoyed watching Tenura’s video. You can see more of our product videos via our YouTube channel. Let us know in the YouTube comments section any innovative uses you have used your Tenura jar and bottle openers for, we hope to hear from you soon.

Daily living aids to improve your summer and garden parties
There are things you can do to try and improve your well being and decrease the pain you may feel due to Arthritis. Staying active can help you to avoid stiffness in your joints and can also be a morale booster. Being out in the fresh air and underneath the warmth of the sun can provide many benefits for those who have Arthritis.
What is Arthritis?
Arthritis is a condition that tends to affect those who are part of the older generation this is often due to the natural wear and tear of material within joints. It does affect all ages and often impacts those who have been incredibly active throughout their childhood. Injury or infection can also increase your chance of Arthritis. Having said that, you should still exercise but do so on a flat, low impact ground that can absorb some of the force through the joints and help out to avoid falls. This can mean that the protective tissue within the joints has been worn away. It is beneficial to help decrease your risk of Arthritis and there are also certain activities you can do to relieve symptoms related to Arthritis.
Why is sunshine helpful to people with Arthritis?
Getting plenty of sunshine has been linked to a decreased risk of autoimmune diseases such as Rheumatoid Arthritis. This long-term condition affects the joints and often causes pain, swelling and stiffness. Sunshine helps the body to synthesise Vitamin D. Vitamin D keeps bones healthy and the autoimmune system working. The autoimmune system is responsible for fighting off infections/diseases. Sunshine for those who have Psoriatic Arthritis, they often see the clearing of patchy red skin associated with this condition. Psoriatic Arthritis affects some of those who have Psoriasis, which is a condition affected by the immune system. It is thought to be triggered by unusual immune responses and a sign of Psoriasis is red patches of skin near the affected joints.
Activities for people with Arthritis
There are all sorts of activities you can do in the sun. For people with Arthritis, it is important to keep in mind that pain may be experienced through some exercises, so it is essential to start slowly and get to know your bodies' limitations. You do not want to cause yourself further pain. Tenura has researched and found that the following activities reduce the risk of Arthritis and help improve the lives of those who have the condition.
Walking is an activity that can involve friends and family. You can visit new places and soak up the sunshine and fresh air. Walking is a great activity for people who have Arthritis, being sat still can cause the joint to stiffen up. Keeping muscles and tissue in the joints warm and limber and can allow the person to move easily without as much pain.
To make sure this is enjoyable and safe, you must wear trainers that fit and provide support for your ankle joints. A flat smooth surface such as a public footpath can also offer you more control over your movements and can help to avoid any accidental injury that could be caused. A walking stick or other daily living aids could be used to help you access more routes and offer an extra level of comfort and confidence. If you pair a walking aid with Tenura anti slip grip strips around the handle, additional comfort and support is offered and the handle will also have non slip properties.
Yoga is adaptable to each individual. As the body becomes comfortable with the movements, the person becomes more flexible and can gain a connection between the mind and the body. Yoga holds this connection at its core and it is said to help relieve and find the source of pain. It can also help you find ways to deal with the pain. The slow and calm breathing can be a source of pain relief and is a useful technique, according to Dr. Kolasinski, a Rheumatologist at the University of Pennsylvania. To make this a safe activity make sure you are wearing appropriate clothing, including trainers that offer ankle support. You may also want to invest in knee and elbow bands/braces that provide support too.
To reap the most benefits from yoga, you should focus on a mixture of muscle-strengthening exercises, flexibility exercises and balance exercises.
Cycling is an accessible activity for people with Arthritis as less strain is put through the joints due to the mechanical structure of a bike. These kinds of low impact activities are perfect for active people with musculoskeletal conditionals.
Explore the range of Tenura daily living aids to find products that can help you complete exercises with more stability and confidence. Many of the daily living aids can have a positive impact on your life and be a great Arthritis aid.

What makes Tenura’s Living Aids the best on the market?
The products are made from silicone and are Non-Toxic. These qualities make them great for any food preparation areas like kitchens. When using our Tenura anti-slip mats, the kitchen can be kept more hygienic due to the easy to wipe down the surface of silicone and its antimicrobial properties. It is an essential feature of our products as they are targeted towards children, the disabled, and the elderly who are more vulnerable and less immune to diseases. So, keeping a tidy, clean kitchen is paramount to their health. Another great use of the anti-slip mats includes placing them under chopping boards to avoid unwanted movement, and our anti-slip coasters keep your drink from being knocked over due to the silicones' grippy surface.
We also have been in the industry for over 20 years, so we know our stuff!
What are Tenura’s Daily Living Aids made from, and why?
Tenura’s Daily Living Aid range is 100% silicone, which means that the products are non-toxic (as chemically inert), washable and dishwasher safe. Due to the gripping properties of the silicone, you are less likely to cause spillages or harm to yourself when using these products in conjunction with chopping boards or as a coaster as items placed on the anti-slip mat/coaster will move less compared to an ordinary counterpart.
The anti-slip mats help prevent injury especially if you chose a suitable colour to indicate a message. Many of our customers choose red mats to highlight that the area could be hot and may require extra attention. Our yellow mats tend to be used in conjunction with the message that the products placed on the mats are general items a person doesn’t want to lose. Such things could include glasses or hearing aids. These non slip mats are also the most visible in low light areas. Finally, the blue silicone products lend themselves to bedrooms and living rooms. The colour blue is calming and helps to provide contrast to lighter surfaces like wooden furniture or white tiles. If you like to know more about this, you can read our Highlight Objects & Hazards with Tenura Daily Living Aids blog.
Other great features of our silicone Living Aids is there very high-temperature threshold of 250 °C and the fact they are very difficult to rip/tear. Again, this makes them perfect for the kitchen but also hotter work environments such as working with cars and hot power tools. Place the hot power tools on a red anti-slip mats, which indicates a warning to others that those tools may be hot. It also protects the surface on which the mat has been placed and stops the power tools being knocked over or moved as easily. Use the anti-slip mats in combination with our anti-slip grip strips on your work tools to allow you to complete a task without as much strain on joints. If you are feeling adventurous, you can also apply our Tenura grip strips in medical practices or offices or to door handles, crutches and more, as they are safe to use anywhere.
What makes Tenura’s Daily Living Aids Antimicrobial?
To make our silicone products antimicrobial, we add a small percentage mix of Silver Nitrate. Silver has been used in the medical industry for years and can be found in wound dressings, creams and as a coating on medical devices. The silver used in our silicone products is toxic to bacteria, along with some algae and fungi. However, it is not toxic to us. Making our products fantastic for uses in kitchens, medical practices and for vulnerable people who are prone to diseases. To learn more about this, you can read our blog on how Rubber Bath Toys Are A Haven For Bacteria. It is also worth noting that Tenura’s products do not feature toxic, cost-saving chemicals or substances, like phthalate plasticisers, that are banned or restricted in some parts of the EU and USA.
In accordance with article 58 of the BPR, this article has been treated with a biocidal product. Silver nitrate (CAS 7761-88-8) has been added to create the Antimicrobial properties.

What payment methods do you accept?
There are seven payment methods we accept they are as follows:
Please note that we accept both debit and credit cards for both Visa and Mastercard.
What is non-slip material and how does it work?
It’s complicated. Silicones are synthetic polymers (a long chain of repeated molecules). The bond between the Silicon and the Oxygen is stronger than the Carbon-Carbon bond. Meaning it has stable thermal stability (resistance to mixing), so they are great for environments that are hotter or the organic equivalent (Silicon) would decompose. The properties of the silicone can be changed by substituting organic chemical groups for other chemical groups (such as the methyl group) and cross-linking. This change is what can make silicone properties change. Properties that can be affected are the flexibility, water repellence, and its solubility (dissolvable). Some of these qualities directly correlate to coefficients of friction (levels of grip).

Tenura’s range of anti-slip and grip enhancing products are designed to create independence around the home. With their excellent anti slip qualities, they make day to day tasks easier and more manageable by increasing grip and comfort.
Additionally, their vivid shades of blue, red and yellow allow Tenura daily living aids to stand out and be more noticeable, particularly in environments with more neutral décor. With this feature they can be used to highlight important objects or potential hazards.
The colours can be beneficial in the following ways:
The lightest colour and in times of low lighting or even when it is dark, yellow is the most visible. Tenura products in yellow would be ideal to use at night, such as coasters for glasses of water and yellow mats for essential items such as glasses or hearing aids.
The colour Red commands attention, whether it be for warnings and danger or for something important you didn’t want to miss. Resting pans or dishes that have just come off the stove or out of the oven on a red Tenura mat will help to warn yourselves and others that the pan is still hot, and much like silicone trivets, it will protect the surface while the pan or dish cools. It is safe to do this as Tenura mats are heat resistant up to 250°C.
Blue is a cool, calming colour and due to this is suitable for use in places of rest such as bedrooms and living rooms. As it can provide contrast to lighter wooden furniture, placing items upon them means that it is easier to spot.
Organise the Kitchen with Tenura
Food prepping in the kitchen is key to helping the later processes. Using Tenura daily living aids to organise your prep area, whether it be for organising utensils, prepped food or both, you can create a contrast of colours to help you identify items much quicker. Red mats can also be used to signify sharp knives or electrical items.
The Tenura Grip Strips and Rolls are also ideal kitchen aids. They are available in both blue and red, ideal for adding enhanced grip, but also can be a useful reminder that blue handles are safe, and those that are red could possibly still be hot.
Tenura in the Garden
With plants, furniture and tools a lot of the time being virtually the same colour, easily identifying that trowel you put down can sometimes take longer to find than it should.
Tenura grip strips and rolls can be used to help in these situations by wrapping around tools and handles to enhance grip and make them stand out from the rest of the garden décor. Wrapping the material around tools such as spades will help to make tasks more comfortable too, in addition to the grip increase you will benefit from by using Tenura strips and rolls.
Tenura strips are pre-cut and ready to be wrapped around the object of your choice allowing you a quick, ready to use, grip-enhancing solution. A lot of media attention has focused on the new British plastic £5 banknote containing animal fats. The use of animal fats is controversial for environmentalists, vegans, and vegetarians.
The proposed new plastic £20 note will contain palm oil. While being more vegan friendly, the implications of the use of palm oil are the processes to obtain this oil devastates forests, leaving many animals without their natural habitats in which they reside. They say they are going to be producing the new plastic £20 notes using sustainable palm oil, but the jury, as ever, is out.
But what purpose do those oils and fats serve? The answer, phthalate plasticisers. Phthalates soften plastic, making it malleable. Without phthalates, plastic would be harder and brittle. What is interesting is that the British polymer banknote manufacturer took a safe approach, animal-derived and palm oil additives are only in trace amounts. They used a safe phthalate, not something harsh like DEHP, DINP, DIDP etc.
The Bank of England has estimated that the anticipated volume of £20 banknotes would require by-products from 25-30 cattle. If you would like to find out more information regarding the use of palm oil and animal derivatives in UK banknotes, The Bank of England has produced an informative brochure.
For our environmentally conscious readers, it is also worth highlighting:
- The new £5 banknote lasts 2.5% longer than their paper predecessors
- Polymer banknotes have a 16% lower carbon footprint and can be recycled
- Polymer banknotes are also three times more hygienic
Tenura takes a strict approach to plasticisers; we believe that objects which are handled regularly should not contain them. Unlike other companies that offer PVC materials laden with phthalates (DEHP, DINP, etc), Tenura takes a different approach. Heavily plasticised PVC materials were developed in the 1960s and viewed as the future product; cheap to produce, easy to mould and possess an initial level of tack.
From the 1980s onwards, research soon highlighted high-level health risks, so much so that a PVC phthalate ban is in place for use in hot food containers, children’s toys, and objects that are likely to enter a child’s mouth, for instance, a milk bottle. The EU, the US Federal Government, and especially the states of California and Oregon have progressively legislated against the use of phthalates. When we created the Tenura range of daily living aids, non-slip bottle & jar openers, non-slip placemats, and cup holders, we wanted to use modern, safe, environmentally-friendly materials. Silicone is a green material that produces products with similar qualities without the use of any phthalates.

Our working lives can and usually do involve much stress. Many people will try solutions to alleviate the pressure that gets built up through the day, allowing them to go about their duties with a much more positive frame of mind.
Here at Tenura, we believe in improving necessary everyday tasks, tasks that usually don’t get a second thought, especially in a working environment. But did you know if these daily tasks take longer or are more complicated than usual, they can be attributable to increasing stress levels to a far higher level?
Below we discuss some ways to virtually eradicate the potential for various daily tasks and work areas from developing into stressful situations:
Avoiding Stress While Working in an Office
Tenura’s range of daily living aids are even useful as slip prevention and grip-enhancement around the office regardless of any physical impairments. Below is a guide to areas of the office where Tenura daily living aids would be useful.
Increase Anti-Slip Properties on Office Desks
Many of us spend our working days, in an almost fixed position typing away on keys and clicking our mouse. Aside from your general awareness to sit in a correct, comfortable position, there are other things you can do to enhance the comfort of your working day.
Many desks have a veneer surface that is often quite slippy. A veneer surface is referred to in the industry as a ‘low energy surface’ and to you and me, a ‘reduced friction’ surface. Slippery surfaces can cause certain keyboards and mouse mats, as well as other items, to have insufficient grip, creating unnecessary movement and, ultimately, potential accidents and frustration as a result of this.
Tenura Anti-Slip Mats
Tenura can offer various solutions to suit this particular problem. Apply Tenura’s range of anti-slip mats to create a high-energy surface that will help any item applied to grip more effectively to a surface. Tenura has various sized table mats available to either resolve a specific movement issue with a single item or cover virtually the entirety of the working area of your desk, so anything placed upon anti-slip mats will not easily slide.
Tenura Grip Strips and Non-Slip Rolls
Tenura grip strips and rolls are a more discreet option. With our pre-cut grip strips or non-slip rolls for you to cut to size and shape yourself, you can create a bespoke anti-slip solution to suit any task you desire. By being selective about how you place your Tenura anti-slip daily living aids, you can keep the aesthetics of your working environment as you like while improving working comfort.
Tenura Non-Slip Fabric
Tenura non-slip fabric is also an excellent option. As well as being non-slip, it can provide a more cushioned surface to provide relief for elbows, forearms or wrists whilst typing all day. Supplied in rolls, and being very easy to cut to size, the possibilities are virtually endless when using Tenura non-slip fabric, providing it is a cushioned, non-slip surface that is required.
Tenura Coasters and Cup Holder
For that mid-morning or afternoon coffee, tea or whatever drink you need to get you through the day, Tenura coasters are available in a range of sizes and styles to ensure you can buy one that is perfect for your needs. Want a coaster that will happily sit on your desk until it is required? Try our four-pack of square coasters or single pack circular coasters that are available in two sizes.
Want a drinks coaster that will go wherever you go? Tenura moulded cup holders are perfect for that office worker who is always on the move. Wherever you and your mug go, you can be sure there is a coaster there. Tenura cup holders form a silicone base around the cup. The drinks holder catches drips and also increases the surface area of the mug, which in turn reduces the risk of unwanted accidents and damage
Pens and Other Hand-Held Objects
For those who experience discomfort or lack of grip with pens and many other hand-held utensils in the office (knives and forks at lunchtime, as one example), then Tenura has options to help you there also.
Tenura Grip Strips and Anti-Slip Rolls
Tenura grip strips again can be used as an effective solution to the problem. Pre-cut grip strips or even non-slip rolls are simple to cut to size, and can be wrapped around the item to increase surface size. This results in a larger, more comfortable surface area that decreases strain on joints and the need for as much strength of grip to be applied.
Tenura Cutlery Grips
Tenura cutlery grips are also another solution. By inserting the pen or similarly held utensils into the end, you instantly increase the surface area, which results in a much easier and more comfortable way to grip the item.
Tenura aims to improve daily living for everyone, and we hope that by you using Tenura daily living aids, we do indeed accomplish our mission. Tenura’s mission is to help you perform day-to-day activities with much more ease and in greater comfort.
